Two storm-recovery sessions left, with lawyers and tax staff on site

Only two City of Ottawa recovery information sessions remain for residents affected by the July 1 extreme weather event, and the City has now confirmed what it earlier said would be added to them. Both run at Ben Franklin Place, second floor, 101 Centrepointe Drive, from 2 to 6 p.m., on Tuesday, July 28 and Thursday, July 30.

The City says both sessions will feature outside legal professionals on site to give general information about insurance questions, claim processes and other legal matters related to flooding, plus City staff from the Revenue Services team to answer questions about the property tax relief program. Staff and partners also cover counselling and wellness supports, health and safety when cleaning flooded homes, insurance and case management, building code and permitting, financial assistance and grant programs, and waste disposal.

Residents seeking help applying to the Compassionate Grant Program are asked to bring documentation confirming ownership or tenancy during the basement flooding event and two or more items proving damage or costs over $1,000, such as dated photos, an insurance claim copy, or paid invoices for equipment rental, cleaning, repair, waste disposal or water removal.

For the Residential Protective Plumbing Program, bring proof of ownership, the building permit and Building Code Services inspection report, and the paid itemized invoice for the protective plumbing devices. Bringing documents helps staff assess an application and does not guarantee eligibility, approval or payment.

Para Transpo fees are waived for travel to and from the sessions, and free on-site parking is available.
